Ceremony at the Low Berth

The Port of Belize Ltd. Partners with the US Navy in their “Project Handclasp” (PH)

 

 

 

 

 

On November 24, 2009 two landing crafts arrived at the Low Berth with  Mr. Paul Sabal  as pilot. These two LCU’s came into the Port from the mother ship the USS WASP aircraft carrier which was anchored some 80 miles from the Belizean Coast.

The cargo made up of books and medical supplies and other miscellaneous items were offloaded from the LCUs and loaded on the trucks by Port of Belize employees and equipment free of cost.YNC (AW) Margarita Cruz and CSO Harold Johnston on recce of the LowBerth

 

A brief ceremony was held at the Low Berth with Mrs. Sharon Featherstone, Charg’ d’

Affaires from the US Embassy giving the welcome remarks and Ms. Jena Berenberg

recipient of textbooks for Schools in the Cayo District giving the vote of thanks.

A second ceremony followed the following day at the Belize Defence Force Air Wing with

both Mrs. Featherstone, and the Minister of National Security, the Honorable Carlos

Perdomo providing the audience with a few remarks. This was followed by the presentation of the PH, followed by the vote of thanks from representatives of the Liberty Orphanage and Hazel Hutchinson’s Day Care for the Elderly.

Following the ceremony both the CEO, Mr. Raineldo D. Guerrero and the Deputy CEO, Ms. Franzine Waight along with Minister Perdomo and other invited guests travelled by helicopter to the USS Wasp for lunch with the Captain and other crew members, followed by a tour of the vessel and a short presentation ceremony.
